Robin’s 147 powers Agrani Bank to victory, Gazipur win thriller by 1 wicket
Introduction to a High-Octane DPL Matchday
The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) continues to deliver high-quality cricket, with the latest round of matches showcasing two contrasting yet equally enthralling encounters. While one match saw a mountain of runs scaled successfully at the BKSP Ground No. 3, the other venue, Bashundhara Sports Complex, witnessed a low-scoring, nerve-shredding absolute thriller. In the end, individual brilliance defined both games as batsmen and bowlers put on a masterclass under pressure.
Agrani Bank Outlast City Club in a 653-Run Fest
The clash between Agrani Bank Cricket Club and City Club at BKSP Ground No. 3 was a dream for batting enthusiasts. On a pitch that offered plenty of assistance to the batsmen, a staggering total of 653 runs were scored across both innings, culminating in a dramatic five-wicket victory for Agrani Bank with only two balls to spare.
City Club Post a Formidable Total
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat first, City Club took full advantage of the batting-friendly conditions. The star of their innings was undoubtedly Abdullah Al Mamun, who played a magnificent, marathon knock of 151 runs off 145 deliveries. His innings was a perfect mixture of caution and aggression, anchoring the entire batting effort. He found excellent support from opener Mizanur Rahman, who scored a solid 58 off 63 balls, laying a strong foundation at the top of the order.
As the innings progressed, Anamul Haque Anam injected urgency into the score, smashing a rapid 44 off just 33 balls. These contributions propelled City Club to an imposing total of 326 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs. For Agrani Bank, the bowlers found it hard to contain the scoring rate, but Robiul Haque and Sandip Roy bowled with discipline, picking up two wickets each to prevent City Club from crossing the 350-run mark.
Robin and Shadman Lead the Epic Chase
Chasing a mammoth target of 327, Agrani Bank needed a strong start, and their openers delivered exactly that. Mahfijul Islam Robin and Shadman Islam put together an outstanding partnership. Shadman played the role of the aggressor early on, scoring a quickfire 78 off just 67 balls, putting the opposition bowlers on the back foot immediately.
Once Shadman departed, Mahfijul Islam Robin took complete control of the chase. Robin anchored the innings beautifully, pacing his knock to perfection to score a sensational 147 off 141 balls. His ability to rotate strike and hit boundaries at crucial junctures kept Agrani Bank well abreast of the required run rate. Experienced campaigner Imrul Kayes chipped in with a vital 33 off 35 balls, while Nasir Hossain and Shuvagata Hom contributed quick, useful cameos in the middle overs to maintain the momentum.
A Tense Finish
Despite the strong foundation, the chase went deep into the final over. City Club’s Enamul Hoque Ashiq bowled tightly, claiming two wickets to build pressure on the chasing side. However, late-order contributions from Amite Hasan and Jahid Javed ensured there were no late hiccups. The duo displayed immense composure, guiding Agrani Bank across the finish line with just two balls remaining, sealing an emphatic five-wicket victory.
Gazipur Group Edge Out Dhaka Leopards in Low-Scoring Thriller
While the match at BKSP was a batsman’s paradise, the encounter at the Bashundhara Sports Complex between Gazipur Group Cricketers and Dhaka Leopards was a tense, low-scoring battle dominated by the bowlers. In a game where every single run felt like gold, Gazipur Group held their nerve to secure a nail-biting one-wicket win.
Md Rubel’s Six-Wicket Masterclass
Batting first, Dhaka Leopards struggled to cope with a sensational bowling spell from Gazipur Group’s Md Rubel. Rubel was absolutely unplayable, ripping through the Leopards’ batting lineup to register remarkable figures of 6 wickets for just 23 runs. Azijul Hakim Rony provided excellent support from the other end, picking up 2 wickets.
Despite the relentless bowling attack, Dhaka Leopards managed to put up a fighting total of 153 runs before being bowled out. Shykat Ali showed immense resilience, scoring a gritty 67 off 91 balls, while Zakir Hasan contributed a crucial 45 off 56 deliveries. Without their efforts, the Leopards would have struggled to reach triple figures.
Gazipur Choke but Cross the Line
What seemed like an easy chase of 154 runs turned into a highly dramatic affair. Gazipur Group’s chase was initially spearheaded by Shovon Moroll, who played a brisk innings of 63 off 56 balls. Emon Ali also made a valuable contribution of 31 off 26 balls to keep the team on track. However, the Dhaka Leopards’ bowlers refused to give up without a fight.
Moin Khan produced an outstanding spell of bowling, taking 5 wickets for 34 runs, while Hasan Murad picked up 3 wickets to trigger a major collapse in the Gazipur batting lineup. Wickets fell at regular intervals, sending shivers through the Gazipur dugout as they slid towards defeat. It was left to Leon Islam to play the ultimate savior role. Remaining unbeaten on a patient 14 off 27 balls, Leon showed great defensive technique and mental fortitude to guide Gazipur Group home with only one wicket remaining, completing an unforgettable victory.
