Litton Das ruled out of final T20I against Australia: Captain to Miss Finale
Bangladesh’s Injury Woes Deepen Before Series Finale
Bangladesh have been dealt another setback ahead of the third and final T20I against Australia. Already trailing in the series and without their regular captain, the Tigers will once again be without Litton Das for the series finale. The news comes as a major disappointment for fans and team management alike, as the opening batsman’s presence at the top of the order is crucial for the team’s batting stability. With the team already facing an uphill battle, this latest development further complicates their strategy for the final match.
The Official Announcement from the BCB
Following the conclusion of the second T20I, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officially confirmed the disappointing news regarding the captain’s availability. In a formal statement, the board explained that the skipper had not recovered sufficiently to take part in the match. The official statement from the board read: ‘Bangladesh captain Litton Kumar Das has not made sufficient progress in his recovery from a calf strain and will not be available for the third and final T20I against Australia in Chattogram on June 21.’
The board further clarified the timeline of the injury, stating: ‘The Bangladesh captain has already missed the first two matches of the series due to a Grade 1+ strain in his left calf, which he suffered on June 14.’ This update officially ruled out any hopes of a late recovery, confirming that the stand-in skipper would remain sidelined for the series’ concluding game.
How the Injury Occurred
The physical setback occurred during the final ODI of the recently concluded bilateral series preceding these T20I matches. During that game, Litton suffered a calf strain that forced him to temporarily leave the field of play. However, showing commendable resilience, he later returned to the crease and fought hard to secure a half-century at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, ending a long wait for a fifty in international cricket. Unfortunately, the strain took a severe toll on his body.
Following the match, the team’s medical staff and physio were unable to provide a reassuring update on the skipper’s condition. Due to the high level of uncertainty surrounding Litton’s fitness, the selectors quickly called up experienced batsman Soumya Sarkar as a late addition to the squad to provide cover. In the end, those initial concerns were fully realized, as Litton was unable to recover in time for any of the T20I matches, leading to him being sidelined for the entire series.
Towhid Hridoy to Lead the Side Again
With Litton Das officially sidelined and unable to lead the team, the captaincy duties will once again be handled by the young and promising batsman Towhid Hridoy. Hridoy will captain the side in the third and final T20I in Chattogram on June 21. This role places a heavy responsibility on the young player, who must guide his team through a challenging period against a highly motivated Australian squad.
Leading the national side against a world-class team like Australia is an immense challenge for any young player, but it also presents an opportunity for Hridoy to showcase his leadership qualities and tactical awareness. He will need to inspire his teammates to perform at their very best to compete effectively in the final match.
The Fight to Avoid a Series Clean Sweep
The upcoming match in Chattogram carries immense significance for Bangladesh. Having lost the first two matches of the T20I series, the hosts are currently trailing 2-0. Australia has displayed dominant form throughout the tour, leaving the home side searching for answers in all departments of the game. Bangladesh will be desperate to secure a victory in this final encounter to avoid a clean sweep on home soil.
To achieve this, the team must overcome the absence of key players and put together a disciplined performance with both bat and ball. The players will need to step up, execute their plans perfectly, and show the resilience required to defeat a formidable Australian team in Chattogram.
