Hamza Choudhury Dominates BSPA Sports Awards 2025

The Cool-BSPA Sports Awards 2025, hosted by the esteemed Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA), lit up the capital with a grand ceremony at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka on Friday. The annual event paid tribute to the nation’s most outstanding athletes, coaches, and contributors across multiple disciplines, marking another milestone in Bangladesh’s evolving sports landscape.

Hamza Choudhury: Triple Winner of the Night

Football star Hamza Choudhury emerged as the biggest name of the evening, securing a clean sweep in key categories. He was awarded the prestigious Sports Person of the Year 2025, triumphing over strong contenders including women’s footballer Rituparna Chakma and hockey player Amirul Islam.

In addition to the top honor, Hamza also took home the Popular Choice Award—a testament to his widespread fan support—and was named Footballer of the Year for his impactful performances in 2025. With three major awards, Hamza’s presence defined the night, echoing his pivotal role both on and off the field.

In a heartfelt video message following his wins, Hamza said: “I’m truly proud to receive this award. The Cool-BSPA Awards are one of the country’s most prestigious sports honors. I want to thank my family, coaches, teammates, friends, and especially the fans for supporting me and the national team throughout the year.”

Cricket Honors Go to Rishad Hossain

Among cricket’s rising stars, Rishad Hossain claimed the Cricketer of the Year title, recognizing his consistent performances and growing influence in international matches. His selection reflects a new generation of Bangladeshi talent making waves beyond regional competitions.

Distinguished Ceremony with National Presence

The event was chaired by BSPA President Rezwan Uz Zaman Rajib, with State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque attending as the chief guest. Aminul Haque, himself a former footballer, handed out trophies and shared his reflections on national sports development.

“The BSPA Sports Awards have been taking place for many years. Earlier I attended this event as a footballer, and now I’m here as the sports minister. I believe this reflects the growth and achievement of our sports sector,” said Haque.

The guest of honor was Malik Mohammed Said, CEO of Square Toiletries Limited, whose brand Cool has sponsored the awards for the 11th consecutive year. He expressed pride in the partnership: “BSPA is one of the oldest sports journalists’ organizations in the country. We are proud to be associated with these awards and thank BSPA for keeping us part of this journey.”

Commitment to Sports Journalism and Development

Rezwan Uz Zaman Rajib used the platform to highlight the importance of sports media in national growth. “I believe our sports journalism is already world-class, but there is still room to improve,” he said, announcing BSPA’s vision to establish a dedicated Sports Journalism Institute with collective support.

The BSPA first launched these awards in 1964, and this year’s edition honored 15 individuals and institutions across 16 categories, celebrating excellence in both mainstream and grassroots sports.
