Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: The Young Cricketer Drawing Comparisons to Sachin Tendulkar

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old opener from Bihar, is having a phenomenal IPL 2026 season, playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). His impressive performance has caught the attention of former India wicket-keeper and chief selector Kiran More, who has compared him to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Sooryavanshi’s Exceptional IPL 2026 Season

Sooryavanshi has been on fire with the bat, scoring 579 runs in 13 games with a strike rate of 236.32. He has hit one century and 3 fifties in the season, with his highest score being 103 runs. This young player has also become the youngest Indian and overall player to hit more than one century in the IPL tournament.

Sooryavanshi’s impressive statistics have also included hitting 53 sixes, the most by any Indian in a single IPL season. He is on the verge of breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 59 maximums. His performance has been nothing short of exceptional, and it’s no surprise that he’s being compared to one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Sachin Tendulkar.

Kiran More Sees a Young ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ in Sooryavanshi

Kiran More, who played 49 Tests and 94 ODIs for India, has praised Sooryavanshi’s talent and potential. More was part of the Indian team when Sachin Tendulkar made his debut in Pakistan in 1989. He recalls being impressed by Tendulkar’s skills at a young age and sees similar qualities in Sooryavanshi.

“When I first saw Sachin Tendulkar, who came in the Indian team for the first time and batted against a great bowler, I knew right away that he was something special. The same is with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi; he is special. It is a good thing that we have such a player. He is going to bring great glory to the country. Let him play the way he does. He has been made and well prepared by God for this sport,” More told ANI.

Sooryavanshi Receives Maiden India Call-up

The India A team for their tri-series in Sri Lanka recently included Vaibhav. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar lauded Sooryavanshi while implying that Yashasvi Jaiswal is higher in the hierarchy during a press conference. Sooryavanshi has 333 runs at an average of 44.12 and a strike rate of 164.95 in eight innings of List-A cricket. In addition, he has scored a ton and a half-century.

With 1412 runs in 25 innings at an average of 56.48 and a strike rate of 165, Sooryavanshi is India’s top run scorer in U19 ODIs. In the format, he also has four tons and seven fifties. His impressive performance has earned him a maiden India call-up, and it will be exciting to see how he performs at the international level.
