Springer comes in for the injured Holder; West Indies ask Sri Lanka to bat
West Indies Opt to Bowl Against Sri Lanka in Second T20I
West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and asked Sri Lanka to take first strike in the second of three T20Is in Kingston. The home team is looking to build on their comfortable seven-wicket win in the first match.
The West Indies have made one change to their XI, bringing in seam bowler Shamar Springer for allrounder Jason Holder, who reported a niggle. Holder was the Player of the Match in the first game, but his injury has forced the team to make an adjustment.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have made two changes to their XI. Batter Kamil Mishara has come in for Lasith Croospulle in the top order. Lower down the order, spin-bowling allrounder Dunith Wellalage has replaced fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka.
Teams:
West Indies: 1 Shai Hope (capt, wk), 2 Brandon King, 3 Shimron Hetmyer, 4 Roston Chase, 5 Sherfane Rutherford, 6 Rovman Powell, 7 Romario Shepherd, 8 Matthew Forde, 9 Akeal Hosein, 10 Shamar Joseph, 11 Shamar Springer
Sri Lanka: 1 Pathum Nissanka, 2 Kusal Mendis (capt, wk), 3 Kamil Mishara, 4 Pavan Rathnayake, 5 Kamindu Mendis, 6 Dasun Shanaka, 7 Wanindu Hasaranga, 8 Dunith Wellalage, 9 Maheesh Theekshana, 10 Dushmantha Chameera, 11 Eshan Malinga
Pitch Report:
Conducting the pitch report at Sabina Park prior to the toss, Carlos Brathwaite spotted a bare patch to one end, and expected the ball to turn big from there. However, he expected an even contest between bat and ball overall.
With the weather cleared up in Kingston, the stage is set for a full game without interruptions. The West Indies will be looking to capitalize on their home advantage and take a 2-0 lead in the series, while Sri Lanka will be seeking to level the series and set up a thrilling decider.
