IPL 2026: Rajat Patidar Praises SRH Dominance After RCB Defeat
A Tactical Masterclass in Hyderabad
In a clash between two of the most formidable sides in the TATA Indian Premier League 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) reminded the cricketing world why they are a force to be reckoned with. Facing off against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Orange Army delivered a statement performance at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, clinching a 55-run victory in match number 67.
Despite the defeat, RCB’s campaign remains firmly on track. With a superior Net Run Rate (NRR) keeping them at the summit of the points table, the Bengaluru side had already secured their spot in Qualifier 1, allowing them to treat this encounter as a valuable learning experience before the business end of the tournament.
SRH Batting Fireworks
After winning the toss, SRH elected to bat first on a surface that proved to be a batting paradise. The tone was set immediately by the explosive opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Head, returning to the fold, provided a quickfire 26 runs, while Sharma anchored the early momentum with a blistering 56. Even after the initial breakthroughs, RCB found no respite.
The middle phase of the innings belonged to Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. The pair put on a masterclass in aggressive batting, stitching together a 113-run partnership that saw them scoring at a rate of over 14 runs per over. Klaasen, in particular, was in sublime touch, reaching his half-century in just 23 deliveries before being dismissed by Krunal Pandya.
The Chase and SRH’s Execution
Chasing a massive total, RCB needed a flying start to stay in contention. Venkatesh Iyer provided exactly that, smashing 44 runs off just 19 balls in a 60-run partnership with Virat Kohli. However, the momentum shifted once Eshan Malinga struck, dismissing Iyer, followed shortly by the crucial wicket of Kohli. Despite a valiant 84-run stand between captain Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya, the required run rate proved too steep to climb, with SRH’s bowlers maintaining tight control.
Rajat Patidar’s Take on the Defeat
Reflecting on the match, Rajat Patidar was candid in his assessment, showering praise on the opposition. ‘Obviously, I think their top five batsmen played really well, and they purely dominated in the first innings,’ Patidar remarked during the post-match presentation.
When questioned about the pitch conditions and the challenge of the chase, the RCB captain highlighted the tactical prowess of the SRH bowling unit. ‘Their strength is slow bouncers and yorkers, they executed pretty well,’ he observed. ‘When you start bowling slow bouncers, slow into the wicket, I think it’s really tough for the batsman to score the runs. 255 is a good score on this wicket, and their five bowlers executed their plans to perfection.’
Looking Ahead to the Playoffs
While the loss brings an end to a high-scoring encounter, the broader picture for both teams remains positive. SRH has proven that their aggressive philosophy can dismantle even the strongest of defenses, while RCB can take heart from the individual contributions of Patidar, Pandya, and Iyer as they prepare for the high-stakes Qualifier 1. As the IPL 2026 season approaches its thrilling conclusion, the rivalry between these two giants continues to provide fans with some of the most exciting cricket of the tournament.
