Tamim Iqbal responds to “father’s blessing cricket board” criticism
Tamim Iqbal Responds to Criticism
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election has been completed, and Tamim Iqbal officially took charge as the new president. However, the newly formed board has already sparked debate due to the presence of several members from politically influential families.
Because of this, critics have started referring to the new committee as the “Father’s Blessing Cricket Board.”
Several elected members include individuals linked to prominent political figures, such as Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed (son of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed), Israfil Khosru (son of Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury), and Mirza Yasser Abbas (son of adviser Mirza Abbas). Their presence in the board has led some to question the transparency of the new setup.
Tamim Iqbal’s Response
After being elected as BCB president, Tamim Iqbal addressed the media and responded to the criticism regarding the so-called “Father’s Blessing” label. He said, “People will give all kinds of tags. That is their personal opinion. Let’s see whether we can turn this from ‘father’s blessing’ into a ‘blessing for cricket’ in the future.”
Tamim also said that neither he nor any board members want to do anything that brings controversy. “I definitely do not want anything from us that creates controversy. We will try to work with full honesty. But I am sure we will make mistakes, mistakes are natural for human beings. The real thing is how quickly we can correct them,” he added.
Moving Forward
The new BCB president’s comments come as the board faces scrutiny over its composition. With several members having links to prominent political figures, there are concerns about the potential for undue influence and favoritism.
However, Tamim Iqbal’s response suggests that the board is committed to transparency and honesty. As the new president, he will face the challenge of balancing the interests of various stakeholders while ensuring that the board works in the best interests of Bangladesh cricket.
