Prince Yadav’s World Cup Dream: From IPL Breakthrough to India Call-Up
For Prince Yadav, the last few weeks haven’t just been a breakthrough — they’ve been transformative. Once a promising youngster learning the ropes from seniors, the fast bowler from Najafgarh has now stormed into national reckoning, turning heads with consistent performances and an emotional dream that resonated with millions.
From Domestic Dominance to IPL Spotlight
Prince Yadav’s journey gained serious momentum during the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he claimed 18 wickets at a sharp average of 19.27. That performance wasn’t a flash in the pan — it was a statement. And he backed it up in IPL 2026 with the Lucknow Super Giants, taking 16 wickets across 12 matches.
More than the numbers, it was his temperament that stood out. Calm under pressure, effective in crunch moments, and reliable during death overs, Yadav emerged as one of the tournament’s most composed young pacers. His ability to deliver key breakthroughs made him indispensable for LSG — including a memorable spell where he dismissed Virat Kohli for a duck.
A Dream Shared, A Nation Moved
Beyond statistics, it was Prince’s sincerity that struck a chord. In a video released by Lucknow Super Giants, he opened up about his ultimate goal: representing India in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup — alongside legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
“I hope to play the World Cup with Rohit bhai and Virat bhai one day and help India win it,” he said, eyes gleaming with hope. For fans who’ve watched Kohli and Rohit carry Indian cricket for over a decade, seeing a young talent speak of them not just as icons but as teammates was deeply moving.
The Seal of Approval: Kohli Speaks Up
The admiration is mutual. Virat Kohli, reflecting on their time together in domestic cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse on the RCB podcast.
“People don’t know, I played Vijay Hazare and didn’t know Prince at all. On the field, he looks so intense — but he’s actually such a sweet guy, and so funny,” Kohli said.
He added with a smile: “I was even telling him during those games where to bowl and what to do.” That moment of mentorship now feels symbolic — a passing of the torch in the making.
Maiden India Call-Up: A Reward Earned
The national selectors have taken note. Prince has been named in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, marking his first senior team selection. He joins fellow pacers Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnoor Brar in a youthful pace attack, with Jasprit Bumrah rested following a grueling IPL campaign.
The squad, led by Shubman Gill with Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain, also features the return of legendary duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli — making Prince’s debut campaign all the more poetic.
