CPL 2026 Squads Revealed: Trinbago Knight Riders Keep Core Stars
The Road to CPL 2026: Defending Champions Secure Their Legacy
The anticipation for the 2026 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has reached a fever pitch following the official reveal of the squad rosters. Set to run from August 7 to September 20, the tournament will span eight different nations, bringing the vibrant spirit of Caribbean cricket to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
At the center of the conversation are the defending champions, the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). Determined to maintain their status as the team to beat, the franchise utilized their right-to-match (RTM) options to keep their championship-winning core intact. The return of heavyweights Nicholas Pooran, Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard sends a clear message to the rest of the league: the Knight Riders are here to defend their crown.
TKR Retains Core Talent
The strategic retention of the TKR core extends beyond the veteran stars. Alongside Pooran, Narine, and Pollard, the franchise has successfully retained Akeal Hosein, who was instrumental in last season’s title run, famously earning the Player of the Match award in the final. To further bolster their depth, the Knight Riders have added Justin Greaves and Dominic Drakes to their ranks, focusing on strengthening their all-rounder department.
The individual pedigree of the TKR squad is undeniable. Kieron Pollard enters the new season as the reigning Player of the Tournament, while Nicholas Pooran and Sunil Narine continue to provide the explosive match-winning performances that have become the hallmark of the Knight Riders’ success.
Movement Across the League
While TKR opted for consistency, other franchises have been busy reshaping their identities. The Jamaica Kingsmen have made a statement by signing Andre Russell and Rovman Powell. Powell, who famously led the Jamaica Tallawahs to glory in 2022, will take on the captaincy. The Kingsmen have also invested in youth, drafting 19-year-old wrist-spinner Vitel Lawes, who recently turned heads with 10 wickets in the U-19 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have stuck to their proven formula, retaining stalwarts Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd, and Shamar Joseph. In a tactical shift, they have brought in Khary Pierre to replace Gudakesh Motie, while keeping the promising Quentin Sampson on the books.
New Beginnings and Strategic Signings
Perhaps the most significant personnel change involves Evin Lewis, who has ended his decade-long tenure with the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to join the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. He will be playing alongside the formidable Alzarri Joseph, as the Falcons look to climb the standings. The Patriots, however, have not been idle; they have secured the services of Jason Holder and league icon Johnson Charles. Charles, the leading run-scorer in CPL history with 3,519 runs, provides the Patriots with unmatched experience at the top of the order.
Elsewhere, the St Lucia Kings have doubled down on their all-round talent by retaining Roston Chase and Matthew Forde, while the Barbados Tridents have successfully brought back opener Brandon King and added the bowling expertise of Gudakesh Motie.
The Battle Ahead
As the countdown to August 7 begins, the tactical landscape of the CPL is clearer than ever. From the retained stars of the Trinbago Knight Riders to the fresh faces at the Jamaica Kingsmen and the reshuffled rosters across the league, the 2026 season promises to be a showcase of tactical brilliance and individual flair. With the rosters now finalized, the focus shifts to the training camps where these squads will be tested before the tournament opener.
Cricket fans across the Caribbean and beyond are bracing for a season that promises to be as unpredictable as it is exciting. With the blend of veteran leadership and breakout talent, the CPL continues to serve as the premier showcase for T20 cricket in the region.
